An end-to-end encounter at Love Street ended 2-2 after a thrilling 90 minutes of action.

There was a sensational start. Edgaras Jankauskas sent in a deep cross from the left after only 20 seconds and Saulius Mikoliunas side-footed past Tony Bullock.

Simon Lappin had a wonderful chance to equalise shortly afterwards but he blazed the ball high over the crossbar after good work by Garry Brady.

Saints were pounding the visitors and Craig Gordon made a fabulous one-handed save from Stewart Kean.

Kean levelled matters when he fed off a clever knock-down of Andy Millen's free-kick by John Sutton and crashed a venomous shot past Gordon. Two minutes later, Kean raced on to a Brady pass and slotted an angled drive away from Gordon.

Mikoliunas had a shot blocked by Bullock and Andrius Velicka was offside as he netted the rebound.

There was no let-up after the interval. Brady, Billy Mehmet and Lappin combined to provide Sutton with a chance but the striker just couldn't connect with the cross.

Hearts equalised after Paul Hartley's free-kick was headed in by Marius Zaliukas.

There was much blood and thunder thereafter but neither side came close to scoring the winner, with Hearts captain, Paul Hartley, being ordered off for a second yellow card.
