Hearts bounced back from last week's derby defeat at the hands of Hibs to record an emphatic 3-0 victory against a Dundee United side that kept on pressing the self-destruct button.

Ian McCall's side have a totally new look this season with 11 new signings, but they were so disjointed that they looked as though they had just met 10 minutes before the kick off.

Kamikazee defending left them three goals down after just 35 minutes and there was no way back for them.

Alan Maybury had already come close before Phil Stamp fired a low free kick under the jumping wall from 20 yards to give Hearts the advantage.

But things went from bad to worse for United when a crazy own goal only 60 seconds later condemned them to defeat.

Stamp's long cross field ball should have been easy for Mark Wilson to deal with but a lack of communication from Keeper Paul Gallacher saw the young defender guide a header into the net as Gallacher charged off his line.

And the game was all over then De Vries caught Griffin dallying and took full advantage with a neat side step inside Wilson and a low finish that left Gallacher helpless.

Indeed, the home side could have added to their tally in the second half when Wyness met a flick from De Vries and was denied by a great point blank save from Gallacher.

And then 10 minutes from time Wilson atoned for his earlier mistake with a goal line clearance from De Vries.

With United anchored at the foot of the table it could be a long and difficult season at Tannadice.
