Dennis Wyness finally found his shooting boots and fired Hearts to a 2-0 victory over bottom club Partick Thistle at Tynecastle.

But this game was all about a controversial incident after 57 minutes when Thistle thought they should have received a penalty. It looked as though Jamie Mitchell had been caught by Alan Maybury as the referee did not give the decision.

Mitchell was incensed and was red carded for his protests, leaving Partick to battle on with 10 men.

Just before half-time, Wyness had bullied Hearts in front after Adrian Madaschi knocked Phil Stamp's cross into his path.

And after the break, Thistle enjoyed their best spell and Mitchell's dismissal gave Hearts the upper hand.

Wyness almost added to his tally in freak fashion when he charged down keeper Langfield’s clearance and saw the ball bounce just wide of goal off is body.

But the former Aberdeen youngster sealed the points 13 minutes from time when he got the break of the ball as Kevin McKenna challenged Langfield.

With the empty net gaping, Wyness launched a clever chip into the net from 20 yards and that was game over for Partick Thistle.

In a game where chances were few and far between, Wyness's opportunism was the difference between the sides and Partick now looked to be staring relegation in the face.
