The Rise and Fall of Ramon Pereira

The Mullet that offered so much, but gave so little…

Ramon Pereira. Yes, I’m sure you’re thinking – wasn’t he that… guy with the hair? That’s him all right. The mullet that encapsulated the hearts of Hearts fans. The 26 year old Spanish striker was much anticipated when he signed on at Tynecastle in June. However, since then; things have gone down hill for Ramon….

Ramon Pereira started his career at home town club Merida before having a brief spell at Atletico Madrid “B” before having spells with Getafe, Jerez and Logrones. His supposed goal scoring ability was spotted by Raith Rovers Manager Antonio Calderon and he went on to be a major hit at Raith, scoring 5 goals in 10 games.

He decided in the summer of 2004 that a move to Hearts was too good to turn down and joined Hearts on a free transfer. Despite a great start at Hearts; showing some glimpses of flair and skill, he never really got going and continually disappointed fans by his lack of team spirit.

Perhaps it was a bust up with John Robertson that spelled the end of his career at Tynie. There was an apparent one behind the scenes. While now still contracted to Hearts, he’s rarely seen even warming the bench at Tynecastle nowadays. It’s disappointing to know that a potentially gifted player was so poor.

When a fan was asked his opinion on Kickback 2 he said this “he is the stereotypical Spaniard, dives about too easy and when the going gets tough the guy is a bystander”.

Seems about right…
