Toto moves to Morton

Hearts target Jonathan Toto has been signed by Morton on an amateur status while the situation around his registration gets sorted out. A statement from Morton said: "The 20-year-old striker will play at Cappielow until January, when he has been earmarked to sign for one of the SPL clubs." Toto impressed Jim Jefferies while on trial, but he was concerned about possible compensation payments. Toto came through the Metz youth system before playing for clubs in France, his native Cameroon and Italy. His most recent club was Fourth Division club AC Legnano and his registration passed automatically to Italy's football federation when they went out of business.

Last month Jefferies said that he was concerned about being landed with a compensation demand. He said: "When you bring in a young player like that, you see one or two clubs getting caught on the hop. There's no point in going on about Jonathan Toto until we find out more about him. Until we've got clearance, there's no point in discussing it because we might not be able to get him anyway. We'll then decide what we are going to do. He's here training, played in bounce games and the agents are working hard to get that information. Only then can we decide what we want to do. He caught our eye and he's played in some lower games. He's scored a lot of goals since he came here, but there's more to it as there's a difference in the games he's playing at that level. I think he's got something. The more we see him, the more we can make a decision, but there's no point until we get clearance."
