 Would you take a near 33% cut in salary to take on a new job? That is the scale of the commitment shown by Stephen Elliot as he has reduced his take home pay by around £2,000 a week when he signed his two-year contract with Hearts. The economies of scale were tilted towards the club as Elliot moved on a free from Preston North End which allowed them to go within a whisker of the top end of their salary scale to secure his signature.Elliott, 26, is said to have earned £6,500 a week in England but he decided the drop in wages was worth it to secure regular first-team football with Hearts. The move will also allow him to be in the international shop window with underlining hopes to add to his nine full caps for the Republic.
