campbell ogilvieWith Gordon Smith resigning from his post as SFA chief executive, there is a vacancy to be filled at Hampden which could attract Campbell Ogilvie. The Hearts Managing Director may be interested in taking on what is said to be the most powerful job in Scottish football. Ogilvie is already well known to the SFA as he is currently a vice-president in the governing body and may be approached to take on the job. SFA President George Peat will take on the executive responsibilities until Smith's replacement is found. Ogilvie has been working at the highest level in Scottish football for a number of years, 27 of them as Rangers general secretary and managing director of Hearts since 2005.

It was Ogilvie who, along with the Anderlecht chairman Roger Vanden Stock, oversaw the overhaul of the European Cup format from knockout to money generating group format based on his personal recommendations to UEFA back in 1990. This, along with his work wit Rangers and Hearts has made Ogilvie a much respected official in the Scottish game. It is unlikely that Ogilvie would apply for the vacant post as he is a private family man who does not enjoy being in the spotlight which any SFA chief executive can avoid. The SFA looked to an ex-football player from the outside of the corridors of power last time they were on the hunt for a chief executive when David Taylor moved to UEFA. Will they look within this time round? Only time will tell but covetous eyes on Ogilvie are sure to be resisted by Hearts.
