Hearts sound out McGhee
Last Updated : 06-Feb-2008 by
Reports in the press are suggesting Hearts have sounded out Motherwell manager Mark McGhee about taking over the manager's post at Tynecastle.
Hearts released a statement on New Year's day informing the fans they had begun searching for a new manager and although many fans are sceptical, sources close to Tynecastle insist a shortlist has already been drawn up and contact has been made.
McGhee has impressed this season taking Motherwell to 3rd in the SPL on a small budget.
He had already said he would not leave Fir Park this season following the tragic death of club Captain Phil O'Donnell, however it remains to be seen whether a summer move with the promise of cash backing and, more importantly, autonomy over team selection could prise him away from the Steelmen.

A successful season this term could see interest appear from south of the border however it is thought McGhee and his family would like to settle in Scotland.
