Football legend Zinedine Zidane has allegedly told a newspaper in France that he is considering a return to football in a player/coach role with Hearts.

The stunning news comes as fans and players alike have become frustrated at the lack of movement on the managerial front at Tynecastle.

Owner Vladimir Romanov has reportedly offered Zidane, who retired last year and has been taking time out ever since, a whopping contract, as well as as well as permission to build and run his own training centre.

The former Real Madrid and Juventus man told L'equipe "It is a great offer and it makes you feel wanted. I will definately have to consider it."

Zidane won every major honour in football during his playing days and scored what is widely thought of as the best goal ever when he struck a sweet left foot volley at Hampden to defeat Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League Final.

The shock news comes a year after German legend Lothar Matthaus revealled he was being considered as the then vacant managers seat at Tynecastle.
