Marius Zaliukas has been named Player of the Month for December. The Hearts captain returned from a contract impasse in October, signing a new deal in November and demonstrating his importance to manager Jim Jefferies as Hearts won three and drew one of their four games last month.
Zaliukas was a mainstay of a defence which kept two clean sheets, in the wins over Aberdeen and St Mirren, and was voted player of the month by a panel of Scottish football experts after being shortlisted from a fans' poll. It was a double award success for Hearts as David Templeton won the Young Player of the Month award for the second successive month.
