Premiership giants Arsenal are today being linked with a £4.5million bid for Hearts and Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

Gordon's future has been the subject of much speculation over the past few months, with a host of clubs including Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Fulham being linked with the 24 year old.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of the Edinburgh born player, and after he watched Gordon play a key role in Scotland's 1-0 win over France at Hampden, commented "Gordon is a good player. It is clear to see he could play at a higher level".

During the January transfer window Fulham manager Chris Coleman had tried to lure Gordon to Craven Cottage, only to be met with a £10million asking price. Coleman scoffed at the figure, saying "That would make him the most expensive Scottish keeper in history - he must be made of gold".

Gordon was also dropped for several games in January as Hearts reportedly tried to negotiate his transfer to both CSKA and Spartak Moscow. Gordon stated at the time "If I am to leave the club I supported as a boy, it will be on my terms".

A lot may depend on the future of Arsenal stopper Jens Lehmann. The current Emirates No1 is out of contract at the end of the season but has not yet ruled out staying with the Gunners for a further year, stating "It will be up to my wife".

However it remains to be seen whether the Tynecastle club will be able to hold onto their prized asset for yet another year as some of Europe's biggest names come calling for his signature in the summer.
