Aberdeen could be boosted by new manager ahead of Tynecastle game

Hearts could be lining up against an Aberdeen side managed by Craig Brown on Saturday after the ex-Scotland manager and his assistant Archie Knox quit Motherwell. The pair had been approached by the Pittodrie club to take over the helm after Mark McGhee was sacked. The pair originally nailed their colours to the Motherwell mast saying they had too much respect for the players at Motherwell to jump ship. However, a second approach from Aberdeen chairman, Stewart Milne, saw Brown reconsider his position and the news from last night was that the pair, who were working without a contract at Fir Park, had quit.

This leaves the way open for Aberdeen to get experienced hands in charge for the rest of the season starting with tomorrow's game at Tynecastle. Motherwell, while acknowledging the non-contract situation, were not best pleased that Milne or his representatives contacted the club to advise them of their approach. They intend to approach the SPL over the situation but, as there was no contract in place, it may well be that the worst Aberdeen could be charged with is a lack of courtesy.
