Benfica midfielder Bruno Aguiar today told reporters he has turned down a move to Maritimo as Hearts have apparently offered the 24 year old Portuguese star a ‘more favourable’ deal.

The Eagles said they wanted to keep Aguiar in Portugal for the benefit of Portuguese football, Bruno has been at Benfica since he was 9 years old apart from 2 seasons on loan at FC Alverca. But Bruno wants to be playing in Europe next season, so looks likely to be in Edinburgh this week for further talks with Graham Rix.

Aguiar played alongside Hearts full-back Takis Fyssas in Benfica, and knows striker Edgaras Jankauskis from Janny’s Porto days.
